(KT Photo: Sotheavy Nou)PHNOM PENH, September 16, (Khmer Times) – The Cambodia Tourism Federation will host the third annual hospitality competition which will take place on Diamond Island from October 8 to 10.
The competition is expected to open doors for Khmer nationals in the food, drink and service industry, as Cambodia integrates into ASEAN, expanding the market for local skilled workers.
The winner of the national cuisine competition is expected to have his/her recipe premiered as a national dish and the winner of each category will receive a monetary prize.
The competition categories are barista, bartending, bed making, cake decoration, table setting, floral design, International cuisine, national cuisine, service and sommelier.
Competitors from Siem Reap, Battambang and Phnom Penh are expected to participate – last year’s barista winners were from Battambang.
“All Khmer nationals are encouraged to join,” said Luu Meng, owner of the Almond Hotel Group.
More information will be available after the Pchum Ben holidays, encouraging smaller venues like cafes, bakeries and bars to join the competition.
Transportation and basic accommodations will be provided to those competitors from out of town who are invited to take part. This will improve the quality of the competition and spur more Cambodian involvement.
CAMFOOD representatives have requested that competitors register as soon as possible.
